Hot Springs hotels in Beitou Taipei
for friends who visited Taipei and would like a restful night and bath
( look also my recommended places for Mozillians to visit in Taipei. )
There are two main onsen areas in Taipei: Betou and Wulai. Betou is more convenient that can easily reached by metro.
(Check below for info regarding day-return onsen-only tickets.)
Top onsen in Beitou
If you are looking for a naked public bath (like a typical onsen in Japan) and you have a high budget, I recommend 三二行館 (Villa 32),20K TWD /night. That is the best one in 北投. I can stay at their super onsen park for the whole afternoon, and they have a Michelin-level restaurant.
The other fine ones are 麗禧 (16K/night) 大地 (10K/night) 亞太 (7.7K/night).
Average selection
For normal budget these also have good public bath, 春天 (Spring Resort) is a historial one, with well Japanese dinner cuisine, open-air good naked public bath with swimming poor and another dressed onsen park (stay: 5K/night. No day-ticket for naked bath)
天玥泉 had a new and big indoor bath at basement (4K/night)
享溫泉 is new and a smaller bath on roof level with open air (4K/night)
On a budget — day-return onsen
With a lower budget Isuggest you find a hostel or hotel in downtown Taipei, and went to 北投 for just onsen. The transit is rater easy that just around 30~60min from downtown by metro.
The hotel typically charge about 500 for day-return public bath. about 500~1000 for 天玥泉 & 享溫泉 & 水美. The most pricy is 2.2K for 三二行館, still highly recommand if you had a whole day time there.
There are some other cheap and crowded one if you would like to try, for price like ~300TWD such as 山樂 (even include a buffet meal with onsen ticket)
The onsen hotel experience in Taiwan
The experience of onsen hotel in Taiwan is more like a modern hotel with a japanese-style naked public bath, not really a Ryoken style. If you search you will find the most famous Ryoken-style one is “Kagaya” in betou, but I don’t really recommend it, pricy but have mid-to-low level review that the service is not worth it.
